Kevin Flanagan & André Nascimento – Heart of Noise

It’s been a couple of weeks since Round 13 of Heart of Noise, a Cambridge Jazz Festival fringe event and also an ongoing series of experimental and live electronic music concerts around Cambridge, UK.

On Nov. 12, 2025, at the Cambridge Junction venue I had the pleasure of doing an improvised set with Kevin Flanagan, combining his brilliant saxophone playing with soundscapes and instruments generated from field recordings we both collected at different points in time ( between 2020 and 2025) and space – sounds captured in the UK, Portugal, Sweden and Norway (including some of the Arctic recordings I did earlier this year with digital artist Filipe Pais for the Whispering Glaciers project).

It was also an honour to share the bill with electronic musician Elif Yalvaç (who organised the evening), pianist Philamelian, bassist Jordan Muscatello and the legendary percussionist and avant garde pioneer Eddie Prévost.

Here are a few snaps from rehearsals at Kevin’s home studio and at the event.

Many thanks to Richard Youell for the concert pictures (1 and 6 to 10) and to Jane Perryman for the short videos!
